In addition to their five decades of hit-making, the Bee Gees also won every imaginable honor including being recognized as Commanders of the British Empire (CBE). One Gibb brothers’ composition, How Deep Is Your Love, has been covered by literally hundreds of artists. Uniquely, the Bee Gees wrote and produced six consecutive number ones in the USA. Among the hundreds (if not thousands) of artists who have recorded and/or performed Gibb songs are (in alphabetical order): Boyzone, Michael Buble, Eric Clapton, Destiny’s Child, Celine Dion, Faith No More, The Gatlin Brothers, Al Green, Elton John, Tom Jones, Janis Joplin, Lulu, Olivia Newton-John, Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross, Nina Simone, Rod Stewart, Barbra Streisand, Take That, Tina Turner, Conway Twitty, Dionne Warwick, Frankie Valli, and, of course, their late brother Andy. Many of their compositions (such as Words) have become standards and are deeply-ingrained in the popular songbook. There were worldwide smashes for Diana Ross ( Chain Reaction), Dionne Warwick ( Heartbreaker) and the title song for the movie, Grease, a number one hit for Frankie Valli and the landmark Guilty album, a Grammy-Award winning, multi-million selling, Top 10 hit-filled release for Barbara Streisand and what is still the number one duet in country music history, Islands In The Stream for Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. Besides the group’s era-defining records, there was a non-stop string of hits for younger brother Andy, who, beginning with his very first single, had three straight number one records in the US, the first time a new artist had ever done that. Of course, it’s impossible to imagine the 1970s without the three Gibb brothers’ (Barry, Robin and Maurice) key contributions to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, which resulted in three Bee Gees number one singles in the US and an album that sold over forty million copies worldwide, still the biggest selling soundtrack of all-time. The Bee Gees have also won virtually every award (Grammys, et al) the international music community can bestow, and in 1997, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In fact, the brothers Gibb are the only songwriters to ever have five songs simultaneously in the US top 10. All told, they have written seventeen US number one records. There is ample proof that songwriting is at the heart of their success. But perhaps because of their incredible accomplishment of having written number one records in four consecutive decades, the brothers considered themselves, first and foremost, to be songwriters. Saturday Night Fever sold over forty million copies wordwideĪs artists, in the USA the Bee Gees have had twenty-nine Top 40 hits, fifteen Top 10's and nine number ones. During that same feverish period, they also wrote and produced three straight chart-toppers for their brother, Andy. With the phenomenon of Saturday Night Fever (over forty million sold) and Spirits Having Flown (over fifteen million sold), they defined an era and became the only artists ever to write and produce six consecutive number ones in the USA (1977’s How Deep Is Your Love through 1979’s Love You Inside Out). Since their first international hit (1967’s New York Mining Disaster, 1941 backed with I Can’t See Nobody), the Bee Gees have sold over two hundred million records, placing them in the top 10 of best selling artists of all time. They are also the most consistently successful group of the past half-century. From a statistical point-of-view, there is little question that the Bee Gees (brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb) are one of the most beloved groups in the history of music. She narrates that alongside therapy and nutrition and also the extensive reflexology occasionally paired with colonic enemas, she cured herself with the power of forgiveness after refusing all medical treatments. It seems very fitting as well, considering that cancer is one of the most extreme cases of all that one can battle in life and the fact that she was actually successful in fighting it just reaffirms her beliefs about self healing and sets her as a monumental example of her own work. If you believe that Hay had a tough enough life, you'd be surprised to learn that she also had to battle cervical cancer back in the late 1970s. That which had originally been a mere pamphlet then developed into a complete book called You Can Heal Your Life which, when published in 1984 amazed a great many people who then started implementing her ideas into their lives. This same ideology was one she preached in all her workshops. Louise conducted an extensive research which led her to affirm her beliefs that you could cure yourself of any illness simply by thinking positively and loving yourself. The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at Maharishi International University of Iowa taught her Transcendental Meditation. She gained appeal as a workshop leader by helping people by speaking the truth that she had discovered. She then became a practitioner of Religious Science in the early years of the 1970s. She thus learned that she could heal herself by keeping a positive mental stadium. The First Church of Religious Sciences on 48th street was where she got the life altering opportunity to study New Thought. The works of people like Earnest Holmes and Scovel Shinn became the inspiration for Hay's epiphany about how she could change her life with the power of thought. This pattern of insecurity and maltreatment throughout her life was obviously the source of her beliefs which later gained her so much love and respect around the world. This yielded her success and she worked for Bill Blass, Pauline Trigere and Oleg Cassini.Īndrew Hay was an English businessman who married her in 1954 but left her emotionally shattered after fourteen years of their marriage when he took off with another woman, leaving her absolutely alone. Her next stop was New York in year 1950 where she became a fashion model under a new name. The city did not serve her well and she could hardly make a living for herself. She dropped out of high school at 15 and at 16, gave birth to a baby girl who she gave up for adoption and moved on to Chicago. Hay also narrates the story of how she was raped by a neighbor at the mere age of five. Financially intolerable circumstances at one hand, she and her mother were also subjected to physically violent treatment by her stepfather as well. Louise did not have an easy childhood in Los Angeles. Louise Hay is also the founder of the Hay House as an effort to keep in continuation her teachings. The Oprah Winfrey Show has, along with many other television and radio programs around the world, had the honor of hosting her as a guest. Another of her most celebrated works is You Can Heal Your Life of year 1984 which has been translated to more than 25 languages for ease of understanding in more than 33 countries.īecause of her beliefs that one can heal one's own self and with her influential lectures about how man possesses the ability of self growth, she has been regarded as "the closest thing to a living saint" in the words of Australian television. Of these, her first was Heal Your Body which was later revised and expanded in year 1988. She has influenced many people with her work and in thirty years, has sold more than 50 million books around the world. Louise Hay is a metaphysical teacher who has been discussing the connection between the mind and the body since 1976, back when the subject was greatly uncommon. In February 2011, DivX was acquired by Rovi Corporation, upon completion of its acquisition of Sonic Solutions. Changes since then have tended to focus on speed, and encouraging wider hardware player support, while the company has also focused its time on the formats and next generation codecs. By the release of version 5.2.1 on 8 September 2004, the DivX codec was substantially feature-complete. has since continued to develop the DivX codec, releasing DivX 5.0 in March 2002. Other developers who had participated in OpenDivX took encore2 and started a new project- Xvid-that started with the same encoding core. ĭivX took the encore2 code and developed it into DivX 4.0, initially released in July 2001. That summer, Rota left the French Riviera and moved to San Diego "with nothing but a pack of cigarettes" where he and Greenhall founded what would eventually become DivX, Inc. The explanation from DivX at the time was that "the community really wants a Winamp, not a Linux." It was at this point that the project forked. This code was included in the OpenDivX public source repository for a brief time, but then was abruptly removed. In early 2001, DivX employee "Sparky" wrote a new and improved version of the codec's encoding algorithm known as "encore2". The company's internal developers and some external developers worked jointly on OpenDivX for the next several months, but the project eventually stagnated. OpenDivX was hosted as an open-source project on the Project Mayo web site hosted at (the name comes from " mayonnaise", because, according to Rota, DivX and mayonnaise are both "French and very hard to make." ). This effort resulted first in the release of the "OpenDivX" codec and source code on 15 January 2001. in 2005) to develop an MPEG-4 codec, from scratch, that would still be backward-compatible with the Microsoft MPEG-4 Version 3 format. In early 2000, Jordan Greenhall recruited Rota to form a company (originally called DivXNetworks, Inc., renamed to DivX, Inc. Instead of re-encoding his portfolio, Rota and German hacker Max Morice decided to reverse engineer the codec, which "took about a week". Rota hacked the Microsoft codec because newer versions of the Windows Media Player would not play his video portfolio and résumé that were encoded with it. It was altered to allow other containers such as Audio Video Interleave (AVI). The Microsoft codec originally required that the compressed output be put in an ASF file. The video codec, which was actually not MPEG-4 compliant, was extracted around 1998 by French hacker Jerome Rota (also known as Gej) at Montpellier. ĭivX -) (not DivX) 3.11 Alpha and later 3.xx versions refers to a hacked version of the Microsoft MPEG-4 Version 3 video codec (not to be confused with MPEG-4 Part 3) from Windows Media Tools 4 codecs. Although not created by them, the DivX company adopted the name of the popular DivX -) codec. The winking emoticon in the early " DivX -)" codec name was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the DIVX system. The "DivX" brand is distinct from " DIVX", which is an obsolete video rental system developed by Circuit City Stores that used custom DVD-like discs and players. He also has relatively large light brown eyes and spiky pink hair (brownish blonde in the manga) that's styled in an undercut fashion.
The instructions and data may be retrieved from the memory array and sequenced and/or buffered before the functional unit circuitry begins to execute instructions on the data. Data (e.g., the operands on which the instructions will be executed) may be stored in a memory array that is accessible by the functional unit circuitry. The instructions may be executed, for instance, by a processing resource such as a controller and/or host processor. For example, functional unit circuitry may be used to perform arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division on operands via a number of logical operations.Ī number of components in a computing system may be involved in providing instructions to the functional unit circuitry for execution. A processing resource can comprise a number of functional units such as arithmetic logic unit (ALU) circuitry, floating point unit (FPU) circuitry, and a combinatorial logic block, for example, which can be used to execute instructions by performing logical operations such as AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, and XOR, and invert (e.g., inversion) logical operations on data (e.g., one or more operands). Non-volatile memory can provide persistent data by retaining stored data when not powered and can include NAND flash memory, NOR flash memory, and resistance variable memory such as phase change random access memory (PCRAM), resistive random access memory (RRAM), and magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM), such as spin torque transfer random access memory (STT RAM), among others.Ĭomputing systems often include a number of processing resources (e.g., one or more processors), which may retrieve and execute instructions and store the results of the executed instructions to a suitable location. Volatile memory can require power to maintain its data (e.g., host data, error data, etc.) and includes random access memory (RAM), dynamic random access memory (DRAM), static random access memory (SRAM), synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM), and thyristor random access memory (TRAM), among others. There are many different types of memory including volatile and non-volatile memory. Memory devices are typically provided as internal, semiconductor, integrated circuits in computing systems. The present disclosure relates generally to semiconductor memory and methods, and more particularly, to apparatuses and methods related to sort in memory using table splitting. 63/027,455, filed on May 20, 2020, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. The gang makes a plan to get rejuvenated by the Wellspring that the Beast has been using for years, only to find that it is nearly dry and that only Alice can open it as she’s currently jacked up on the ‘Ber. Which is a little life rule that’s also relevant on Earth, but is particularly helpful in Fillory, as we will see later in the episode. Though she does give him a bit of advice that is even more valuable than his blood: Quentin, realizing he doesn’t need the witch’s help, asks for his blood back, but she’s not having that as she still needed to be compensated for the time she spent following him through the forest. While she can’t reattach Penny’s hands, she does make things more manageable for him by cauterizing the wounds, covering his stumps and placing his hands in a rather pretty box that would be great for treasure (or hands). In the meantime, however, Alice’s swallowing of the seed of Umber has made her impossible to kill (for the time being), and she revives Eliot and Margo. But left with little choice to save his friends, he provides her with his blood and takes her back to the Wellspring where he has left the gang. Because that seems like something that would never come back to bite Q in the ass. Turns out she’s a healing witch, and as payment, she demands a vial of Quentin’s blood. But like most of the characters in this episode, people aren’t exactly what they seem. He comes across a healing witch, who lives in a cottage inspired by the villain of Hansel and Gretel. The episode opens with Quentin frantically running through a Fillorian forest searching for assistance for his friends, who he believes to all be dead or horribly maimed (don’t worry Penny, Quentin’s out looking for someone to give you a hand…heh). But hopefully, given that this is the first episode of the new season, we will have many more weeks to dig through these initial impressions and see where we were right (and wrong) about our favorite sorcerers.Īs always, spoilers (so stop here if you haven’t already watched the episode), and analysis to boot. There were so many challenges to perceptions in this episode, it was hard to keep up. Timeliness!īut for now, I will settle for overanalyzing the start of Season 2. And while this is our first recap/review from Season 2, there will be an update coming soon from San Diego Comic Con last summer, with all of the pictures I creepily took from the front row of the panel.
